We all know that prom dresses (or any special occasion dress) can be super spendy! For one night of wearing, you definitely want to get your money’s worth. Where you decide to sell your dress (and how) makes a huge difference in how much you will get for it! So, where can you sell your prom dress? There are SO MANY PLACES for you to choose from! The problem is deciding which one will help you get the best bang for your buck, and most importantly help you sell without a hassle. I’ve tried selling dresses online and in person. While selling dresses online was less hassle, it took a long time to get them off of my hands! I marketed on Craigslist and on Facebook. No one was really interested. It wasn’t that my dresses were ugly, or even that I had taken unflattering pictures of them. The real problem: I wasn’t reaching my target audience.
In my case, I needed to sell two dresses. The first was a black. strapless, asymmetrical dress with black lace frill at the bottom and a design of beads on the bust. It was beautiful. I wore it once – to my junior prom. It was in great condition – but it was small. The other dress was a beautiful wine colored, simple strapless, slim fit dress. Oh I loved that dress! But, again it was so small. Both dresses were worn only once and in perfect condition. Selling these dresses should have been a piece of cake, but, I had to find a person exactly the same size as me who wanted a dress exactly like what I was selling. That can be (and was, in my case!) super hard to find when marketing to the masses at random! What I needed was to find a place to sell my dress – a place where people were already hoping to buy dresses!
I eventually sold my dresses (finally!). After more than 4 months of posting and re-posting and re-posting again and still getting ZERO RESPONSES, I finally just took my dresses into a consignment store. Unfortunately, I got significantly less than I had asked for them as well as less than I had originally asked for. I purchased my black dress for over $300 and got about $50 bucks, the maroon dress was about $200, but I only got $40 when I sold it. So disappointing. How I wish I had found TheDressList.com before that!
